DJI Mini 5 Pro Announced: Bigger 1-Inch Sensor and Longest Battery Life Yet

DJI has officially unveiled the Mini 5 Pro, bringing professional-grade imaging to one of its most compact drone lines. Surprisingly, the company hasn’t even listed it on its U.S. website yet, but enthusiasts worldwide are already buzzing about its new features.

The highlight of the Mini 5 Pro is its 50-megapixel 1-inch-type sensor, a major leap from the 1/1.3-inch sensor in the Mini 4 Pro. Measuring 15.19 x 11.11mm, the sensor offers more than double the surface area, significantly increasing light capture. DJI claims the upgrade delivers 14 stops of dynamic range, making it possible to capture richer detail in both highlights and shadows.

According to DJI, this new sensor can even edge out the one in the larger and more expensive Air 3S (2024) in certain conditions. The company highlights enhanced portrait performance, brighter details in shadow regions, and more natural vegetation rendering — avoiding the oversharpening issue that sometimes affected the Air 3S.

Battery life has also seen an improvement. Despite keeping the Mini 5 Pro under the crucial 250-gram weight limit, DJI promises 36 minutes of flight time, up from 34 minutes on the Mini 4 Pro. For those who need extended sessions, an optional longer-life battery pushes endurance to an impressive 52 minutes. This makes it the longest-lasting non-industrial drone DJI has ever produced, even surpassing the Mini 3. However, due to regulatory limits on drone weight, this extended battery will not be available in Europe.

With its combination of portability, cutting-edge imaging, and unmatched flight endurance, the DJI Mini 5 Pro looks set to become a new favorite for drone creators who want maximum performance in a compact form.
